Canoga Park, CA — Loss is a universal experience, yet it feels profoundly isolating when it strikes. Whether it is a spouse of four decades or a beloved grandparent, the void left behind can feel impossible to fill. Author Kay E. Thomson addresses this heartache head-on in two companion works that offer a roadmap through the "tunnel of grief" for both adults and children.
Through her deeply personal narrative and her compassionate guidance for little ones, Thomson illustrates a powerful truth: the end of a life is not the end of God’s provision.
Finding JOY In the Midst of Grief: A Lifeline for the Grieving Adult
In Finding JOY In the Midst of Grief: Continuing in God's Loving Grip Through Loss of a Loved One, Thomson shares her raw and honest journey following the passing of her husband, Dale, after 44 years of marriage and ministry together.
The book serves as both a memoir and a spiritual guide. It doesn't shy away from the difficulty of "letting go" when God takes something cherished from our grasp. However, Thomson reframes the pain of loss through a lens of divine love rather than punishment.
Oh NO, Where Did He Go!: Helping Children Navigate Loss
Grief is often even more confusing for children, who may struggle with the physical realities and the abstract nature of death. Thomson’s children's book, Oh NO, Where Did He Go!: Understanding how children handle death and loss, addresses these fears with gentleness and clarity.
The story follows a young boy named JT as he grapples with the loss of his grandpa. JT asks the tough, literal questions that many children face:
How will I ever find him?
How can he get out of the hole they put the big box in?
By walking through JT’s mix of emotions, the book provides a lesson in love and trust, helping children understand that even in death, they are held by a God who loves them most.
Kay E. Thomson’s writing is rooted in a lifetime of faith and service. After 44 years of ministry in music and teaching at First Baptist Church in Los Altos, California, her life took an unexpected turn on August 10, 2008.
Kay has since balanced a 17-year career in the high-tech industry with a profound calling to help others heal. Today and for many years she has led Griefshare Groups both in Los Altos and Roseville, CA to learn how to cope with the traumatic loss in their lives. Her work—both in print and in person—continues to help others find their own "journey to joy."
